Joe Chithalen Memorial
Musical Instrument Lending Library
Hello Everybody!“A Joe Show 2005” has come and gone, and the board is already making plans for next year. One of the main objectives behind the concert is to let all of Kingston’s budding musicians know about The Joe Chithalen Memorial Musical Instrument Lending Library, located at The Boys’ and Girls’ Club on Bagot Street. The JCMMILL is a fabulous resource for anyone interested in learning to play music. Local artist Pat Shea has blessed the library with a wonderful portrait of Joe (unveiled at this year’s show), and we encourage one and all to come check out the scene, and borrow an instrument!
Let’s start by thanking the entire line-up: Doug Reansbury, The Lady Racers, The Laws, The Mystic Caravan, Bullmoose, Chris Koster, Betablokka, James McKenty & The Spades as well as Ronnie Hawkins & The Hawks put their best ‘chops’ out there for an appreciative audience at Lake Ontario Park. The enormous depth of talent in our little corner of Ontario was well represented. Ronnie Hawkins is living proof that once music gets into you, it doesn’t ever leave! All the young instrument builders who demonstrated their creativity in the craft area, then again on stage with Roger James now have the seed planted in them.
A very heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to ALL the volunteers who teamed up to make the event run smoothly behind the scenes. There are too many to mention, so to keep things simple: THANK YOU ALL!! You are the glue holding these productions together, and The Raging Grannies’ Seal of Approval is dedicated to all of you.
The vendors and artisans who braved threatening weather conditions certainly deserve to take a bow. Local artist Heather Hall raffled off three of her musical images and donated all the proceeds to the lending library! This is only one example demonstrating how much the JCMMILL means to everyone involved in “A Joe Show.”
Many sponsors and corporations had a hand in the all day affair, and they all warrant a HUGE round of applause: KROCK105.7, The Patron Spirits Company, The Kingston Brewing Company, Brick Breweries, Don Larson and MT Systems for their production prowess, Friendship Construction, Bay Electric, S-Jay’s Tents, WSI, United Rentals, James Reid Furniture, The Toucan, Chez Piggy Restaurant, Pan Chancho Bakery,
CKWS TV, McMahon’s House of Flowers, The Fridge Doctor, Dean Markley Strings, Chapters/Indigo, Staples, Food Basics, The Pepsi Bottling Group, Market Vision Unlimited, and The City of Kingston. “A Joe Show 2005” could not have happened without their support and services. We look forward to doing it all again next year with another sensational display of musical talent, and I suggest visiting www.ajoeshow.com often to see what’s up because, to quote Wally High: “You never know who’s gonna show at A JOE SHOW 2006!”
Thank You,
The JCMMILL
